Ebook About Look out for Jojo’s new book, Paris for One and Other Stories, available now. From the New York Times bestselling author of Me Before You and One Plus One, in an earlier work available in the U.S. for the first time, a surprising and moving romance set in an old-fashioned seaside town on the verge of unwelcome change Liza McCullen will never fully escape her past. But the unspoiled beaches and tight-knit community of Silver Bay offer the freedom and safety she craves—if not for herself, then for her young daughter, Hannah. That is, until Mike Dormer arrives as a guest in her aunt’s hotel. The mild-mannered Englishman with his too-smart clothes and distracting eyes could destroy everything Liza has worked so hard to protect: not only the family business and the bay that harbors her beloved whales, but also her conviction that she will never love—never deserve to love—again. For his part, Mike Dormer is expecting just another business deal—an easy job kick-starting a resort in a small seaside town ripe for development. But he finds that he doesn’t quite know what to make of the eccentric inhabitants of the ramshackle Silver Bay Hotel, especially not enigmatic Liza McCullen, and their claim to the surrounding waters. As the development begins to take on a momentum of its own, Mike’s and Liza’s worlds collide in this hugely affecting and irresistible tale full of Jojo Moyes’s signature humor and generosity.Book Silver Bay: A Novel Review :
An editor would have helped this book. Adults behaving as adults would have made it a better read. An ending that wrapped up the unsettled issues would have been good.Mike and his development company found property in Silver Bay, New South Wales, to develop as a water sports/spa, vacation dreamland. Some of the residents welcomed the project and others did not. Those rejecting the high end vacation development had personal secrets for hoping the development would not go through. Let your mind wonder about the romantic aspects of the book. Believe me, you will not have to wonder very long. Everything is predictable. The start of the book was slower than cranking a cold diesel engine. Unlike diesel engines, the storyline did not move alonger much faster. The author did not rely on profanity or explicit sex to fill the pages of the book, which I appreciated. I think I will leave her books to teenagers from now on. I have been burned twice.Thank you, Ms. Moyes, for the read. The story centers around a quaint beach town and a run-down hotel. You meet Liza and her daughter, then enters a big city developer, sprinkle in some family secrets, and toss in a cast of various characters add to that a sub-line about whales and dolphins and a book is born.To me this could have been a super great read, especially coming from this author, but this book is just ok, nothing that will keep you up at night, nothing that will keep you turning pages, it's what I refer to as a "chick lit beach read". As you read it, you know how it will end, you just don't know which road it will take to get you there. JoJo Moyes can put out some riveting books but this is not one of them, this again seems to me to be one of those "meet the deadline" types of book.If you're looking for a book that won't stop you from doing other things, that won't keep you up at night, that won't make want to stop everything and read then this is the book for you. It's not bad but it is bland, the characters are forgettable, story line predicable the only way I can help you understand is to equate it to a Life Time movie, once you've seen one, then the next one is a cookie-cutter with different characters and locations.
